Savannah Shirley

2013 NC Spot Festival Princess

"I am Savannah Marie Shirley, your 2013-2014 North Carolina Spot Festival Princess. I am a seventh grader at Dixon Middle School. I am a member of the Junior National Honor Society, Odyssey of the Mind Team, Dixon Middle School Chorus and Sneads Ferry Presbyterian Youth Group. I love to spend time with my family and my big black lab, Molly. My passion is performing arts and I hope to one day perform on Broadway. Being a Festival Queen is a lot more than wearing pretty dresses with a crown on your head. It is my duty to represent the community of Hampstead gracefully and impact this community is a positive way. I am also responsible for promoting the tradition of the North Carolina Spot Festival and Pageant and raising funds for the scholarships that future queens will benefit from. I have many goals this year as Spot Festival Princess, but one very personal goal is to raise awareness to a crisis that occurs every day, bullying. It is an awful word that everyone can relate to. As a 13 year old girl I have been witness to acts of bullying and I have also been bullied. I hope throughout my reign I can reach out those who are victims and encourage them to stand tall and stand together. Even bullies get bullied and it becomes a never ending cycle. If we spread the message, show love to one another and be a light, we can stop bullying everywhere. I love being the Spot Festival Princess because it is so much fun. I enjoy spending time with my Spot Festival Queen, Samantha Romero. We always have a lot of fun together. I also love making appearances and performing at different community events. Being blessed with the opportunity to share my talent with others has been amazing. The North Carolina Spot Festival Pageant is an amazing opportunity for young girls and I am so happy to be the 2013-2014 North Carolina Spot Festival Princess."

2013 NC Spot Festival Queen

"Wow!  Has it really been an entire year?  It seems like it was just yesterday that Savannah & I were crowned Princess & Queen.  This year has been such an amazing experience & there is no way that I can express my gratitude enough.

Shannon and Kelly: Thank you for all that you do.  There is no way that this organization could be successful without you both.  Thank you for your guidance, support, & more importantly, thank you for becoming my friends.

To the Spot Festival & Spot Festival Pageant Committees:  Thank you times a million for all the work you do to bring such a wonderful festival & pageant to our town.  Without you all, my year would not have been possible, nor would future years.  You are the heart of our beloved festival.  Thank you. Coach Lynn Lanier:  I may no longer be on your rec softball team but you’ll always be Coach Lanier to me.  Without you, this festival & pageant would not exist.  Thank you for everything you do to ensure that the Spot Festival is a success. To the community of Hampstead: I cannot thank you enough for accepting me as your town & festival’s representative for this year.  So many of you have followed me from my elementary school days until now.  It has been such a blessing to represent my hometown & the wonderful people in it.  I am so grateful. Michelle, Todd, & the girls:  Thank you for supporting me throughout my year.  You guys mean the world to me.  I love you all. Crystal:  Who would’ve thought your awesome backstage-helper skills would have gotten me here?!  Thank you for being available whether to talk, accompany mom & I to appearances, or offer your brutally honest opinion on clothing.  I love you & thank you for being my big sister. To my brothers Rene & Alexander:  Thanks for dealing with my diva attitude & letting me have the spotlight this year.  Thank you for supporting my dreams & being the best brothers a girl could ask for.  I love you goofballs! To my pageant friends:  Thank you for welcoming me into the pageant world with open arms.  I love you all & have cherished our time together this year. To Julie, Adam, Lilly, & Matt: You guys have become a second family to me.  Thank you for all that you have done to ensure that Savannah & I were set for all of our appearances.  Distance will never hinder our friendship.  I love you guys! To my family & friends:  Thank you for all of your support.  I am so blessed to have you all in my life & I love each & every one of you. Mom & Dad:  I cannot have asked for better parents.  Thank you for believing in me & supporting every dream I have, no matter how ridiculous it may seem at the time.  Thank you for being there at all times, regardless of any situation.  I would not be where I am today without both of you.  I may no longer be the town’s queen after tonight, but I am forever your princess & little girl.  I love you both. Savannah:  I couldn’t have asked for a better young woman to spend my year with.  I am so proud of all of your accomplishments.  You are truly a princess; always remember that.  I cannot wait to see what God has in store for you.  Follow all of your dreams & continue to work hard.  Thank you for being my Princess, my friend, & my little sister.  I love you so very much! This year has one that I will hold close to my heart forever.  I am eternally grateful! Now & forever, I am:

Samantha Romero, your 2013 North Carolina Spot Festival Queen
